After your physician appointment at 55 Dundas St E, your Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) prescription is transmitted electronically to the pharmacy you choose. You never have to carry a paper prescription, and nothing can get lost between the clinic and the counter.

If you would rather not travel, there is a pharmacy in the same building, so many patients are dosed the same day as their appointment. If you already have a pharmacy you trust — near home, near work, or one that already knows you — we will send it there instead. The choice is always yours.

Common Questions

Yes. After your visit, your doctor sends the prescription electronically or gives you a paper copy to take to the pharmacy of your choice. Most Ontario pharmacies can fill common addiction medicine prescriptions, such as buprenorphine-naloxone, on the same day, though stock can vary, so it helps to call ahead and confirm they have it in stock.

Your doctor's visit at our Toronto clinic is covered by OHIP, but prescription medication itself is billed separately by the pharmacy. If you have private insurance or the Ontario Drug Benefit, for example if you're on ODSP, Ontario Works, or over 65, your medication may be fully or partially covered. Ask your pharmacist about your coverage before you pick up your prescription.

Not every pharmacy stocks every addiction medicine, especially specialized options. If the pharmacy of your choice doesn't have your prescription available, ask your pharmacist to order it in or suggest another nearby pharmacy that carries it. Calling ahead before your appointment can help you find a pharmacy with your medication ready the same day.
